SUCCESS STORY

Inspection of pharmaceutical products

Manufacturing and filling infusion bags requires unlimited flexibility, maximum output and cleanroom compliance. Thanks to the speed and precision of the Stäubli TX60 6-axis robot, Kiefel can produce 7,200 bags per hour.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS

  • Closes with different port systems
  • Works with a large number of variants
  • Robots have high-level cleanroom classification
  • Hygiene and accurate dosing
  • High cleanroom classification
  • Short cycle times

TASK

Manufacture and filling of infusion bags

It is not easy to fulfill the requirements governing the manufacture and integrated filling of infusion bags: the most stringent quality and hygiene standards, full cleanroom suitability, unlimited flexibility and maximum output while occupying as little space as possible are the criteria which top the list of user specifications.

SOLUTION

Innovative system with outstanding output

Kiefel GmbH has an ideal system concept in its product range in the IV-Express. The output rates speak for themselves: depending on the machine version, the IV-Express achieves in its 2, 4 or 6 configuration an output of up to 2400, 4800 or even 7200 articles per hour. Flexibility is key: The system can be configured to make different sizes of IV bags and also multi-chamber bags with a peel seam.

The cycle time of all the work and processing steps is consistently optimized. The requirements made of the robot are similarly high. The six-axis machine needs to be ultrafast but at the same time, with space at a premium, needs to be of a very compact design and meet the correct cleanroom classification.

The Stäubli TX60 is the first choice for the filling station: It is ultrafast, accurate, reliable and also scores with low particle emissions. The TX60 also boasts a fully encapsulated structure. This makes the robot easy to clean and even the standard version meets the cleanroom classification ISO 5 which is sufficient for use in the IV-Express.

It is important that the filling of pharmaceutical liquids complies with current hygiene regulations and that dosing is accurate. The Stäubli TX60 six-axis robot then closes the filled bags. It can work with different closure systems and will accommodate the different types of IV bags. Furthermore it is fast enough to keep pace with the short cycle times of the machine.
