Capability and agility for premium fabric processing

V. FRAAS GmbH is a family-owned global fabric producer founded in 1880. Its main business is fashion accessories such as scarves. With 600 employees around the world, the company produces some 12 million scarves a year, including the premium brand Cashmink.

Challenging seasonal business

The main challenge in the scarf industry is that it is a seasonal business. To ensure profitable operation, V. FRAAS GmbH needs reliable, precise, high-speed machinery for continuous weaving of very high volumes during the peak months – and these machines must also offer the flexibility and easy handling for quick style changes to produce a diversified range of weaves during non-peak months.

Customer benefits

  • High degree of flexibility in weaving preparation
  • Quality warp beams preventing yarn breakage during weaving
  • Quick style changes
  • Increased overall efficiency in weaving

Agile solutions for quality and quick style changes

To achieve high productivity during the weaving process itself, V. FRAAS GmbH has been counting on Stäubli shed motions such as electronic rotary dobbies and Jacquard machines since the 1980s. In the step before weaving, or weaving preparation, the warps have to be prepared. They must be ready at the right time, in the right number, and in the required quality in order to ensure continuous production. To optimize the workflow of time-consuming warp preparation, V. FRAAS GmbH recently invested in a new SAFIR S60 automatic drawing-in machine. Able to recognize yarn types and colors, this machine handles repeat-specific distribution of the warp yarns into drop wires, healds, and reed in a single machine cycle. Thanks to continuous monitoring of the automatic processes, error-free drawing in and very high drawing-in rates are achieved. With its unique yarn separation system, this machine supports perfect preparation of the warp and top-quality results. The final product is a completely drawn-in weaving harness with 1 warp beam and up to 2 yarn layers as a compact unit ready for transport to the weaving machine or to the storage area. In either case, the completely drawn-in harness allows rapid warp beam changes and immediate restart of the weaving machine.

Like Stäubli, V. FRAAS GmbH is an agile family-led company operating in a global environment, always reinventing, and relying on state-of-the-art production solutions to optimally serve demanding customers worldwide with premium products.

What does the customer say?

"To achieve both high productivity and agility, V. FRAAS GmbH decided to invest in a new SAFIR S60 automatic drawing-in machine. With its unique yarn separation system, this machine supports perfect preparation of the warp and quality of the final product."
