Reaching next level performance

Next Generation of Mobile Robotics for all production environments

"The market for mobile robots is extremely dynamic and growing rapidly. This attracts investors and leads to many new players entering the market. On one side, there are providers with mobile transport robots for new, innovative concepts. On the other side, more and more manufacturers are entering the field with cost-effective solutions, putting significant pressure on the industry."

Jan Louwen | Global Head of AGV at Stäubli Robotics

Quo vadis, mobile robotics? A look at current trends and developments

It is an exciting time for mobile robotics. Global events, technological advancements, and changing market conditions are increasingly influencing our industry. The growing labor shortage on the customer side further drives the topic of automation, and thus mobile robotics. Established market players in particular are facing new challenges and are confronted with strategic questions. How do they want to position themselves? Which partnerships make sense? Which market segments can be tapped into?

There are reasons for this.

Reason 1:

New technologies, new opportunities

Reason 2:

Standardization and modularity: The path to mass production

Historically, customized solutions dominated the market. They met the diverse customer needs and special applications. To increase the reliability of mobile robot solutions in the future, the development and production of serial products will become more important. For broad market penetration, manufacturers of customized solutions must think more in terms of modular products. This can sometimes be a rocky road, especially if the company does not already have the competencies around serial business in-house. Nevertheless, this rethinking is important.

Stäubli benefits here from its internal know-how in mass production and pursues this path with its 3-ton mobile platform AGV and, with the counterbalance forklift FL1500.

Mobile Robot Platform Series

"With the PF3 mobile transport platform, Stäubli Robotics is introducing a compact all-rounder AGV with a payload capacity of three tons, thereby bringing its expertise in heavy-duty transport to intralogistics and production halls."

Jan Louwen, Global Head of AGV and Managing Director of the Stäubli Location in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany.

From heavy-duty AGVs to standard AGVs

Interview with Peter Pühringer, Managing Director of Stäubli Robotics Germany, and Jan Louwen.

Question: Stäubli has restructured its business in the field of mobile robotics. What were the reasons for the restructuring and what benefits do they offer?

Louwen: In the past, the Sulzbach-Rosenberg production site was known for its heavy-duty AGVs, which were primarily developed for specific customized applications, usually in small quantities or batch size 1. Additionally, our goal is to offer standardized mobile robotic solutions that are as easy to configure as an industrial robot.

Pühringer: For this reason, it makes sense to locate these series products within our robotics division. Our offering for customers no longer ends with industrial robotics; it now includes mobile standard solutions as well. This makes us a comprehensive full-service provider.

Question: Do you also see synergies?

Pühringer: Since modern production concepts today are based on a combination of industrial and mobile robot solutions, and more and more customers are demanding one-stop solutions, this is a huge advantage.

Louwen: Stäubli robots are considered as benchmark in many future markets. Users there are also heavily focused on innovative intralogistics solutions, particularly in many hygiene-sensitive applications in the fields of life sciences, food, and semiconductors. And in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, we are one of the few manufacturers worldwide building mobile transport platforms (AGVs) designed for use in cleanroom environments. It hardly gets more synergistic than that.

World’s first cleanroom mobile pharma robot makes its debut @ automatica

“Sterimove exemplifies our commitment to innovation and excellence in automation technology for the pharmaceutical industry.”

Rudolf M. Weiss | Global Head of Life Sciences & Food

The Sterimove cleanroom mobile pharma robot was designed in collaboration with a Stäubli customer and major player in the pharmaceutical industry. It offers key benefits for improving compliance, ensuring product and worker safety.

Sterimove brings pharma the same efficiency and productivity gains many other sectors have realized with mobile robotics, enabling manufacturers to optimize their material flows. Its modular design, small footprint, and maneuverability in narrow spaces allow seamless integration and high versatility to automate numerous applications.
