The performance of a PV system is determined by the weakest components. High-quality components and optimized wiring design are the foundation for success at this stage. One cannot stand without the other.

The effectiveness of a PV system also relies on high-quality installation, contributing to the key factors for long-lasting and safe performance.

Operation

With a history spanning more than 30 years, countless solar power plants in the solar industry have been in operation for years. Not all of them meet their owners' expectations in terms of performance and yield.

Struggles and challenges

 

  • Connectors and cables are almost invisible at first sight and represent a small part of CAPEX compared to main components like modules and inverters.
  • However, they are the main root cause of OPEX costs resulting from downtime, lower efficiency, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Lack of knowledge at this project phase can lead to incorrect assemby, pollution of the electrical contacts or water ingress into the connector, which is part of the lifelines of the PV system.
  • Not adjusted or optimized wiring design can create too much tension and impact the performance.

Stäubli will receive and evaluate a defined set of field samples in the laboratory to determine their current status, performance and root cause in the event of failure. Our Repowering Support will enhance safety and performance through expert guidance in the DC installation.

Insights into what assembly techniques that do not conform to requirements will be provide in a Lab Inspection Report and a Debriefing.
