When Softronic decided to build electric locomotives capable of competing throughout Europe, the company knew that quality depended above all on choosing the right partners.
For over 15 years, Stäubli has collaborated with Softronic, Romania's leading manufacturer of electric locomotives and multiple-unit trains. As the company has grown, our partnership has evolved alongside them – supporting three critical applications that keep their trains running reliably across Europe, from Sweden to the Balkans.
Our partnership began with a challenge: ensuring efficient, contamination-free cooling for Softronic's in-house traction converters. We developed a tailored solution using SPC12 quick couplings featuring no-spill technology, high flow, and flat-face design for reliability under high-frequency operation. The result? Zero quality issues across 15 years of continuous operation.
When Softronic secured contracts with Green Cargo for operations in Northern Sweden, it faced demanding technical specifications for its pneumatic pantograph systems. Green Cargo required 316L stainless steel construction for maximum durability, connectors rated for 10-bar pressure, and the ability to operate in extreme conditions down to -40°C. Our RBE06 solution met all these requirements. Equipped with both color coding and mechanical Poka-Yoke systems, the connectors also simplify maintenance in hard-to-reach pantograph locations by making misconnections physically impossible.
Building on this proven reliability, we're now testing our SPI solution for sandblasting circuits – our most demanding application yet. Mounted externally beneath the locomotive body, these connectors face direct exposure to mechanical shocks and temperature extremes. For this latest application, Softronic approached only Stäubli, a testament to the trust we've built together.
This long-term partnership illustrates how Stäubli's technical expertise and local presence support customers in building safer, more efficient rail systems. Through customization, consistent quality, and rapid support, we help companies like Softronic meet its engineering requirements and serve customers across Europe.
As Softronic continues to expand production and strengthen its presence in the European market, we're proud to support its growth with reliable connection solutions that deliver long product lifespan, reduced maintenance, enhanced safety, and lower total cost of ownership. And we look forward to continuing our collaboration for many years to come.
