The image of the pharmaceutical industry has drastically changed over the last 30 years. Following the trends of general industry, this sector has successfully won the challenge of automation keeping in mind the requirement of aseptic and decontamination. Robotics have become more and more popular because of their flexibility and also due to trends to personalized medicine and small batch production. Pharma Factory will keep on moving and will become smarter, connected and safe. Objective is to reduce the intervention of human within high under watching areas, therefore, Automation suppliers will be challenged in Mobile Solutions, Artificial Intelligence, Remote Intervention and obviously Industry 4.0. These new features will have a big impact in every area of Pharma Industry from the API Research and Production, Liquid and Solid Production and Auxiliary Processes; in Biotherapy where new ways of producing drugs from human cells; in Laboratory Automation where big data management is massively used; and in Packing Material Manufacturing where the quantity of connected and wearable devices will explode in the next years.
About Rudolf-Michael Weiss Rudolf-Michael Weiss started in the senior management at the Stäubli Robotics Division of the STAUBLI Group in October 2020. He took over the global responsibility for robotic/automation business in pharma and medical devices as Global Head of Pharma and as a Member of the Global Management Team. After his studies in Stuttgart, Rudolf M. Weiss started working at Servotech in 1999. From 2001 on, he was working at Groninger where he was responsible as Marketing Director, Senior Project Manager and Sales Director.
After experiences at FIMA, he decided to go back to pharma joining Bausch+Ströbel the global leading company for fill/finish equipment. In 2018 he was announced to be Authorized Officer and Director Sales & Marketing. He can draw on 20 years of experience in the field of Pharma Fill / Finish.
