BRNO RESERVOIR

Safe charging at the pier

For more than 70 years, the vessels in the Brno Reservoir have been battery-powered. In the course of modernization of the infrastructure at the pier, the previous Stäubli connectors were replaced by the new single-pole industrial connector 16BL to improve safety.

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic after the capital Prague, with many sights. Navigation on the reservoir, which began in 1946, is now operated exclusively by electricity and carries over 245,000 passengers per year in the season from mid-April to mid-October.

Every night, the batteries get charged under the ship's lower deck for up to 11 hours, guaranteeing trouble-free operation the next day for up to 100 km. As part of the modernization of the pier infrastructure, the previous Stäubli connectors supplied by the ship's manufacturer got replaced by the new single-pole connector 16BL.

Improved safety

Stäubli's latest generation of single-pole industrial connectors made it possible to improve safety on the pier and for operators. When mated, the 16BL connector offers IP68 and IP69 protection, making it perfect for use in wet environments. The MULTILAM contact technology implemented in the 16BL connectors ensures a high level of working safety as well as the required high performance, while mechanical coding of the connectors on the outside reduces the risk of wrong connection.
